ABEOKUTA, Ogun State — Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed more than 2,000 food packs to residents of Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of its efforts to address food insecurity and support vulnerable households across Nigeria.
The donation was made through the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank Initiative at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cathedral, Itesi, Adatan, Abeokuta, under the financial institution’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
Speaking at the distribution exercise, the Regional Bank Head, South West 1, Fidelity Bank Plc, Folaranmi Jemirin, said the bank had distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones since the initiative was launched in 2023.
Jemirin said the programme was aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which seeks to achieve Zero Hunger, while reaffirming Fidelity Bank’s commitment to improving the welfare of communities where it operates.
He said the initiative was designed not only to provide immediate relief to vulnerable families but also to contribute to long-term social development and food security.
“At Fidelity Bank, we remain committed to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that improve the living conditions of our host communities and contribute to sustainable development,” Jemirin said.
He added that the bank’s interventions in Abeokuta extend beyond food distribution to include investments in education, youth rehabilitation, women’s economic empowerment, social welfare and other community-focused programmes.
According to him, the Food Bank Initiative is aimed at restoring hope and strengthening families and communities through targeted social interventions.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dominic Olagbaju, commended Fidelity Bank for supporting vulnerable members of the Abeokuta community.
Olagbaju described the initiative as a demonstration of the bank’s commitment to humanitarian support and community development, noting that partnerships between corporate organisations and religious institutions could help extend social interventions to people in need.
Launched in 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has provided food support to vulnerable households across Nigeria through partnerships with religious institutions, community organisations and other stakeholders.
The initiative forms part of Fidelity Bank’s broader CSR efforts aimed at promoting inclusive development, improving livelihoods and strengthening communities.
