First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Launches Community Food Bank Programme, Commissions Projects in Ogun

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-West, while commissioning major housing and healthcare projects in Ogun State.

The South-West launch of the programme, which is the fourth zonal rollout, took place on Tuesday at Makun, Sagamu, Ogun State.

The National Community Food Bank Programme is designed to provide healthy and nutritious food to vulnerable groups, particularly malnourished children under six years, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

Speaking at the launch, Senator Oluremi Tinubu said the initiative was aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and aimed at strengthening food security, improving health outcomes and building a more prosperous nation.

She commended Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and his wife, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, for establishing three food banks in Sagamu, Yewa North and Abeokuta ahead of the zonal launch.

The First Lady also acknowledged the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, and the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Muyi Aina, for their efforts in driving the programme.

According to her, the initiative represents a deliberate and sustainable response to food insecurity and malnutrition among vulnerable households across the country.

She said the programme would make nutritious food more accessible to children under six, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.

Commissioning of Housing Estate

Senator Oluremi Tinubu later commissioned the Muhammadu Buhari Housing Estate in Kobape, Ogun State.

The estate, located along the Oke-Mosan-Kobape Express Road, comprises 108 housing units.

Describing the project as a milestone in the provision of decent, smart and affordable housing, the First Lady said initiatives of the kind would contribute to improving the quality of life of residents.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, while appreciating the First Lady for commissioning the project, stressed the importance of tackling the state’s housing deficit through the provision of decent and affordable accommodation.

Abiodun assured residents that his administration would continue to provide affordable housing units for citizens until the end of its tenure.

The First Lady also commissioned the Gateway Medical Center of Excellence during her visit to the state.

She subsequently held an engagement with traditional rulers in Ogun State as part of her activities during the visit.
