NCC, Enugu Partner on Digital Skills, Innovation and Entrepreneurship

NCC, Enugu Partner on Digital Skills, Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The partnership, according to the NCC Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Aminu Maida, is aimed at expanding access to digital opportunities, developing human capital and creating an enabling environment for technology-driven businesses and startups.

Speaking on the agreement, Maida said the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), automation and other digital technologies had made investment in digital skills as important as investment in digital infrastructure.

He explained that the agreement formalised the operational lease of the NCC’s Digital Industrial Park and Learning Centre in Enugu to the state government, paving the way for the facilities to be fully deployed for digital capacity building and economic development.

According to him, the facilities were established as hubs for innovation, entrepreneurship and human capital development, with the broader objective of equipping young Nigerians with relevant 21st-century digital skills while supporting startups and attracting technology-related investments.

Maida said the initiative would also strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to compete in the global market for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) and other technology-enabled services.

He stressed that infrastructure alone could not drive innovation, noting that people, ideas, entrepreneurs and strategic partnerships were critical to transforming digital infrastructure into sustainable economic opportunities.

“Buildings alone do not create innovation. People do. Ideas do. Entrepreneurs do. Partnerships bring all these elements together,” Maida said.

The NCC chief expressed confidence that the full operationalisation of the facilities under the Enugu State Government would provide young people with opportunities to acquire relevant digital skills and enable entrepreneurs to transform innovative ideas into sustainable businesses.

He added that the initiative would help connect local enterprises with opportunities within and outside Enugu State, while contributing to job creation and the expansion of the state’s digital economy.

Maida noted that the collaboration was consistent with the Federal Government’s digital economy agenda and aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly the ambition of building a $1 trillion economy driven by productivity, innovation and private-sector growth.

He reaffirmed the NCC’s commitment to supporting initiatives that broaden access to digital opportunities, strengthen human capital development and ensure that communities across Nigeria are positioned to benefit from the country’s ongoing digital transformation.

The partnership is expected to further deepen Enugu State’s digital ecosystem by providing a platform for skills development, entrepreneurship, innovation and technology-enabled employment.
