Oyo Hospitals Board Disowns Fake Internship Circular, OYRLEA Intensifies Environmental Enforcement in Ibadan
IBADAN, Nigeria — The Oyo State Hospitals' Management Board (OYSHMB) has disowned a fake online circular announcing applications for internship and housemanship programmes, warning members of the public to disregard the fraudulent publication while urging prospective applicants to seek information only through official channels.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan, the Board described the circular as false, misleading and the handiwork of fraudsters attempting to deceive unsuspecting applicants.
The Board clarified that it has not commenced any recruitment process for internship or housemanship programmes and advised students, parents and the general public to ignore the fake announcement.
OYSHMB added that it remains open to enquiries and clarification on internship placements, the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and other hospital management programmes in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Board, Dr. Anifat Ibraheem, urged residents to visit the Oyo State Hospitals' Management Board at the State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, for authentic information regarding its activities and programmes.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has stepped up enforcement against illegal livestock and agricultural activities in Akobo, Ibadan, as part of efforts to safeguard public health, protect the environment and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
The enforcement operation, conducted in collaboration with the Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and security agencies, followed a compliance assessment visit to the Mercy Rock area.
According to the Authority, officials found that several residents and property owners who had earlier been issued a 21-day Abatement Notice failed to comply with its directives. Consequently, a final 14-day Abatement Notice was served on the affected persons, with a warning that enforcement actions would commence immediately after the notice expires.
The enforcement team also investigated a petition from residents of the Ifesowapo, Yawiri area concerning a poultry farm allegedly constituting a public nuisance.
During the inspection, officials observed that the poultry facility, located within a densely populated residential neighbourhood, emitted offensive odours and operated under poor waste management conditions, including the indiscriminate accumulation of poultry droppings.
Environmental Health Officers warned that the unsanitary conditions posed serious public health risks, noting that the facility could become a breeding ground for disease-causing pathogens capable of triggering outbreaks of cholera and other communicable diseases if corrective measures were not implemented.
The poultry farm owner was subsequently served a 14-day Abatement Notice and directed to address all identified environmental infractions in accordance with the provisions of Oyo State environmental sanitation laws.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting residents' health and promoting environmental sustainability, OYRLEA said the ongoing enforcement exercise is aimed at ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and maintaining a clean, safe and healthy environment across Oyo State.
The Authority warned that individuals and organisations that fail to comply with its directives within the stipulated period would face appropriate enforcement measures in line with the laws of Oyo State.
