 Aigboje AIG Imoukhuede Celebrates 60th Birthday, Reflects on Life, Faith and Legacy

Aigboje AIG Imoukhuede, co-founder of Access Bank and prominent Nigerian businessman, philanthropist and investor, has marked his 60th birthday with a message of gratitude, reflecting on six decades of life, service, institution-building and his commitment to creating lasting opportunities.

Imoukhuede, who attained the milestone on Thursday, September 24, 2026, said he received the occasion with “profound gratitude to God” for life, grace, family, friendship and the privilege of purpose.

In a reflective birthday message, the former Access Bank executive said the central theme connecting his life and career had been a calling to build.

According to him, his journey has been defined by efforts to build institutions, people and opportunities, while contributing to the development of a stronger Africa.

“To build institutions. To build people. To build opportunities. To help build a stronger Africa,” he stated.

Imoukhuede, who has built a reputation across Nigeria’s banking, investment and philanthropic sectors, said his broader aspiration had also been to build a life anchored in faith, family, service and values capable of enduring beyond an individual.

Reflecting on the people who have contributed to his journey, he acknowledged that his accomplishments were not achieved alone.

“Whatever has been accomplished has never been mine alone,” he said, expressing appreciation to his wife, Ofovwe, their children, family members, friends, colleagues, partners and mentors.

He particularly acknowledged his mother, Pastor Emily, and his “special partner, Herbert,” for their roles in his life.

The 60-year-old recalled that when he turned 50, he described himself as “God’s Work in Progress,” adding that the description remains relevant a decade later.

“At 50, I described myself as ‘God’s Work in Progress.’ Ten years later, that remains true. The building continues,” he said.

Looking ahead to the next decade, Imoukhuede said his prayer was for the grace, wisdom and strength to continue building with greater intentionality, generosity and commitment.

He said he hoped to leave behind institutions, opportunities and lives that would be stronger because he had been enabled to make a positive difference.

“As I enter this new decade, my prayer is simple: that God grants me the grace, wisdom and strength to keep building—more intentionally, more generously and with an even greater commitment to leaving behind institutions, opportunities and lives that are stronger because God enabled me to make a difference,” he said.

Concluding his message, Imoukhuede summed up his 60-year journey in three words: “Deeply thankful. Still building.”

“To God be all the glory,” he added.

Imoukhuede and Herbert Wigwe co-founded Access Bank in the early 2000s, transforming the institution from a relatively small Nigerian bank into one of the country’s major financial institutions. His career has subsequently extended into investment, entrepreneurship, philanthropy and initiatives focused on strengthening Africa’s economic and social development.

His 60th birthday comes as he reflects not only on his professional achievements but also on the relationships, values and sense of purpose that have shaped his journey.
