IGBO SPEAKING COMMUNITY IN LAGOS STATE CALLS FOR INCLUSION IN GOVERNMENT
The Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos(ISCL) is a formidable umbrella and rallying point of all Igbo speaking nationalities in Nigeria. The organization is an off shoot of the Igbo Union that bonded Igbos into one United front before the Nigerian Civil war.
The President General of ISCL,High Chief(Sir)Cyril Sunday Eze on Wednesday during a Press Conference held at Masha Surulere Lagos said that the Lagos Igbo's are law abiding citizens who are ready to show love to whoever is vying for any political office in Lagos ,Nigeria but they stand against any form of disenfranchisement found in choosing the Igbo representatives.
He said their people are enlightened to stay away from any form of violence, while finding way to contribute positively for the good of the community and whatever environment they find themselves.
He called on the Federal and State government to strengthen the security strategy systemfor every Nigerian to be safe to go about their legitimate businesses irrespective of the part of the country they resides.
He expressed concerns in his address that it baffles the group as they are currently yet to have an Igbo candidate in Lagos to represent them, and urged that ISCL demands to empower her unemployed graduates and additional should be welcome when the Igbo representative emerges.
He explained that he did not want the occurrence of disenfranchisement which happened at Alaba, to come up again as their people were denied of INEC registration.
The President General therefore called on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to demonstrate responsibility and efficiency by ensuring that all those who registered for their Permanent Voters Cards(PVC) are issued their cards to enable them vote in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
He expressed that the group has put in place a robust structure to sustain this campaign by advancing in voter education for Igbo people to understand what newly passed electoral act says in relating to registration, voting or contesting so as to avoid invalidation and losing their rights to vote and be voted for. While he stated that the group has done a lot abroad for the citizens to register and get their PVC and already mobilising and encouraging qualified and capable members to vie for elective positions in the 2023 elections.
He congratulated and thanked all Presidential Candidates who emerged from the various political parties and urged them to remain committed to ensure free and fair political/electoral processes.
The State Women Leader,Chief Mrs. Gloria Amaeze said in her address that they are already educating the market women on the need to get their PVC and vote but still, it has been over 30 years now that the Igbo Speaking Community has not been carried along,while we have couple of people in Aso rock, yet unemployment cases increased and never stopped casting our votes for them.
" But we shall never stopped praying for God's free and fair election in nigeria and ensure that their voices are heard and rights respected to make the Igbo's children get employment. She said.
The Group Youth Leader/Federal House of Repr. PDP Candidate Oshodi Isolo Constituency 2,Hon. Ebenizer Ken Obioma said there is a reason to be united in Nigeria when we write a narrative of oath to make things right in Nigeria and advised the Nigeria Youth to shun violence and thuggery but join their hands to encourage peace in Nigeria for every insufficient things to be sufficient in the nation.
He however promised to be a positive voice in the green chamber if he emerged Oshodi Isolo PDP Federal House of Representative comes 2023, he said he will provide solutions to the problems facing his constituency.
