Internet Fraudster Arrested for Vehicle Scam and Theft of N30 Million
LAGOS – Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan Lagos, led by Assistant Inspector General of Police AIG Olatoye A. Durosinmi, have arrested Joseph Olaosebikan Olawuyi for obtaining a Mercedes Benz GLE 350 under false pretenses and stealing N30 million.

The arrest followed a petition from Adesuwa Remee Ogizie, a US-based licensed car dealer. Ogizie reported that in 2016, Olawuyi contacted her to purchase a Mercedes Benz GLE 350 worth N30 million, claiming that his brother, Jude Hanslem, would make the payment on his behalf. After the vehicle was delivered to Olawuyi in Nigeria, Ogizie discovered that the money paid into her account was the proceeds of fraud.

A team of detectives from the Zonal Anti-Kidnapping Unit, led by SP Abass Gadzama, arrested Olawuyi. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, admitting that he was involved in internet fraud at the time and that the Mercedes Benz GLE 350 had been sold, with the proceeds converted.

The investigation is ongoing, and further findings will be communicated. The suspect will be prosecuted upon the completion of the investigation.
