CGC Adeniyi Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency in Nigeria Customs Service Promotion Exams

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has reiterated the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) dedication to transparency and fairness in its promotion process as the 2024 promotion examinations for officers and men of the NCS commence. 

During an inspection visit to one of the examination venues at SASCON in Maitama District, Abuja, on Monday, August 19, 2024, CGC Adeniyi emphasized the Service's commitment to maintaining the rigorous standards that characterized previous promotion exercises. “Our goal remains to ensure that every deserving candidate is promoted based on merit,” he stated.

The Comptroller-General assured that robust security measures have been implemented to safeguard the examination's integrity. “We are ready to invest the necessary effort to secure the venues and uphold the integrity of the process. We want all candidates to have confidence in the outcome of the promotion exams,” he added.

CGC Adeniyi also highlighted the competitive nature of this year’s promotion process, noting that the limited vacancies for Deputy Comptroller and Comptroller positions would make the exercise particularly challenging. Despite this, he assured that only the most qualified officers would be promoted.

In a move to ensure inclusivity, CGC Adeniyi confirmed that technological arrangements have been made to accommodate officers posted abroad, enabling them to participate in the examination simultaneously with their colleagues in Nigeria. This effort, facilitated by the National Intelligence Agency, underscores the Service’s commitment to fairness for all eligible officers.

“This promotion exercise is crucial for maintaining the high standards of our Service. Every eligible officer can be confident that their promotion will be based solely on their performance and merit,” CGC Adeniyi concluded.

The 2024 promotion exams mark another milestone in the NCS's ongoing efforts to reward excellence and uphold transparency in its operations.
