Dispatch Rider Killed, Two Injured in Multiple-Vehicle Accident on Lekki-Epe Expressway

A tragic accident on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos has claimed the life of a dispatch rider, while two others were seriously injured. The incident occurred near Chevron, heading toward Ikota, when a high-capacity bus suffered brake failure and caused a chain collision involving a car and a motorcycle.

According to preliminary reports, the bus, identified as a 'T&M' vehicle with registration number AKD 952 XZ, lost control due to brake failure while speeding. The bus collided with an oncoming KIA RIO (BDG 853 DA), which was then forced into the path of a dispatch motorcycle (KTU 695 QK) traveling in the opposite direction.

The dispatch rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while the two other victims sustained severe fractures and were rushed to a nearby hospital by a good Samaritan.

Police officers from Ajiwe and Ilasan Police Stations, along with personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and ensure security during the rescue operations.

In a statement, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased rider and sympathized with the injured victims. He also emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly the braking systems, urging drivers of high-capacity buses to ensure their vehicles are in optimal condition before setting out on any journey.

Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment for LASTMA, confirmed the incident and called for increased vigilance on the roads to prevent future tragedies.
