First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Urges Africa to Retool Education for Development During Meeting with Burundian Ambassador

Abuja, Nigeria (16th August, 2024)– The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for a retooling of the education system across Africa as a critical step towards unlocking the continent's vast potential and accelerating human development. She emphasized that the future of Africa lies in harnessing its resources and providing the right education for its youth.

Senator Tinubu made these remarks during a courtesy visit by the Burundian Ambassador to Nigeria, Edouard Nduwimana, at the State House in Abuja. The First Lady highlighted the importance of African countries working together to overcome challenges and foster unity across the continent.

“For Africa to reach its full potential, we must look inward and focus on equipping our youth with the right education. This is the key to ensuring that they can take their rightful place in the global market,” she stated.

She further noted that African nations must no longer take their natural resources for granted, urging leaders to empower the younger generation to actively participate in the continent's development. According to her, the youth must be ready to step up and contribute to building a brighter future for Africa.

“Africa is blessed with immense resources, yet we have not fully utilized them. It's time we take responsibility and lead by example. By doing so, we can inspire our youth to join us in shaping the next century,” Senator Tinubu added.

The First Lady also reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to elevating Nigeria and Africa as a whole, ensuring the continent takes its place among global powers. She noted that recent changes in governance are driving accountability and restoring Nigeria’s reputation on the world stage.

In response, Ambassador Nduwimana, speaking through an interpreter, expressed gratitude for the First Lady’s interest in education. He shared that Burundi has overcome significant challenges and is now on a path to peace and development, with a vision set for 2040 and 2060 under the leadership of their current president.

Having spent seven months in Nigeria, the Ambassador praised the country’s hospitality and warmth, underscoring the strong relations between both nations.
