LASTMA Boss Urges Motorists to Avoid Causing Traffic Jams at Fuel Stations

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to motorists across Lagos, cautioning them against creating traffic bottlenecks around fuel stations as they queue for fuel.

The warning came from the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, who expressed concerns over the increasing traffic congestion caused by vehicles parked indiscriminately around filling stations. To address this issue, Mr. Bakare-Oki announced the deployment of additional LASTMA officers to monitor and manage traffic around these stations.

According to Mr. Bakare-Oki, the current fuel scarcity does not justify obstructing traffic, and he expressed displeasure over the reckless behavior of some drivers who disrupt the smooth flow of traffic by carelessly queuing on the roads.

"We understand the challenges posed by the fuel shortage, but it must not become a reason for causing inconvenience to other road users," he said. "We are committed to keeping Lagos roads free-flowing, and motorists should avoid turning fuel queues into traffic nightmares for others."

He further emphasized the importance of effective traffic management in achieving a seamless multi-modal transportation system, which is vital to the success of the 'T.H.E.M.E.S+' agenda of the Lagos State government. 

Mr. Bakare-Oki also urged Lagos residents, particularly motorists, to cooperate fully with LASTMA officers. He reminded the public that they can now reach out to LASTMA through the newly inaugurated toll-free call center at 080000527862 for complaints, comments, and commendations.

The Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, also supported the call, urging motorists to adhere to traffic rules, especially during this challenging period.
