Unpainted Mazda Bus Involved in Collision on Ifako Bridge, Lagos

At around 10:30 a.m. today, a serious accident occurred on Ifako Bridge, Lagos, involving an unpainted commercial Mazda bus (MUS 576 YJ) and a Korope mini-bus (FKJ 618). The collision took place on the route towards Ogudu.

Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the Mazda bus was distracted while eating and lost focus. This caused him to lose control of the vehicle, which was further complicated by sudden brake failure, leading to the crash.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly responded to the scene, rescuing five passengers—one male and four females—from the Mazda bus. The injured individuals received immediate medical attention from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and were transported to the Accident and Emergency Centre near the Toll Gate along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep concern for the victims and urged all drivers, particularly commercial bus operators, to exercise caution and avoid distractions while driving to prevent such incidents.

In a separate incident, an Acura SUV (AAA 818 HV) collided with two cows at Iyana-Oworo, heading towards Ogudu, after a herd of cattle attempted to cross the highway. The collision resulted in the death of the two cows and severe damage to the SUV.

LASTMA officers responded by clearing the vehicle to ease traffic congestion and later handed it over to the Ogudu Police Station for further investigation.
