Rema Featured on Glo-Sponsored African Voices Changemakers
Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Rema, is the latest guest on *African Voices Changemakers*, the CNN International magazine programme sponsored by telecom giant, Globacom. The multi-award-winning singer and composer, born Divine Ikubor, shared his remarkable journey from a young boy performing in church to becoming a global music icon.

Rema, 24, discovered his talent while entertaining friends at Ighile Group of Schools in Edo State, where he would sing and rap at school events. His breakthrough came after a freestyle to D'Prince's song *"Gucci Gang"* went viral on Instagram, catching the attention of D'Prince, a music executive and producer. Impressed by Rema’s talent, D'Prince brought him to Lagos and signed him to Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records, owned by Don Jazzy.

In 2019, Rema’s debut single *"Dumebi"* became an instant hit, marking the beginning of his rise to stardom. He gained international recognition with his 2022 track *"Calm Down,"* which featured a remix with American pop star Selena Gomez. The song dominated the charts, holding the number one spot on the Billboard Afrobeats Songs chart for 58 weeks and reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100.

Rema’s achievements in the music industry have earned him numerous accolades, including the Billboard Music Award for Top Afrobeats Song and the MTV Video Music Award for Best Afrobeats Video. In 2022, during a London concert, he was celebrated for surpassing one billion streams globally. Most recently, on October 30, 2023, he performed at the prestigious Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris.

*African Voices Changemakers* featuring Rema will air on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with repeats at noon the same day. Additional repeats will be broadcast on Sunday at 4:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., and on Monday at 4:00 a.m.
