Comptroller Dera Nnadi, mni Honored with Two Prestigious Awards at CGC Awards Night

Abuja – The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and its Area Controller, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, mni, were recognized for exceptional service at the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Awards Night, held on Friday, November 29, 2024, in Abuja.

Comptroller Nnadi received two accolades: an Award for Distinctive Performance and a Special Award for Workplace Transformation, in recognition of his leadership, innovative contributions, and commitment to delivering on the command’s mandates.

The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, presented the awards, which commended the Tincan Island Port Command for its transformative achievements and innovative trade facilitation solutions.


The inscriptions on the awards highlighted Nnadi’s contributions:
“Winner: CGC’s Special Award for Workplace Transformation” and “In Recognition of Your Distinctive Performance and Commitment to the Ideals and Vision of the Nigeria Customs Service.”

Under Comptroller Nnadi’s leadership, the Tincan Island Port Command achieved remarkable milestones, including the generation of ₦1.2 trillion in revenue as of November 2024 and the successful remodeling of its 40-year-old administrative building.

In his acceptance speech, Nnadi dedicated the awards to the officers and men of the command, emphasizing that the achievements were a result of teamwork, dedication, and commitment. He expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General for his unwavering support and the recognition bestowed upon him and the command.

“These awards are both an honor and a challenge to continue improving the pace of work at the command,” Nnadi said.


He also urged stakeholders at the port, including business owners, to leverage the Trade Modernization Project initiated by the Comptroller General to embrace technology, promote trade facilitation, and adopt paperless procedures for efficient operations.

Addressing his officers, Nnadi described the awards as a call to action, encouraging them to see the recognition as motivation to work harder and achieve even greater milestones.

The CGC Awards Night celebrated excellence across various commands of the Nigeria Customs Service, fostering a culture of innovation and dedication to service delivery.
