LASTMA Swiftly Averts Disaster After Diesel Tanker Spill on Lagos Expressway

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) successfully averted a potential disaster on Wednesday following a diesel tanker spillage on the Charity axis, inward Oshodi Oke/Anthony, along the Lagos expressway.

The incident, which occurred earlier in the day, posed a significant risk to commuters, residents, and infrastructure in the area. The fully loaded tanker spilled its content onto the main carriageway, creating a dangerous situation that required immediate action.

Responding with urgency, LASTMA officials, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire Service and other emergency agencies, swiftly arrived at the scene to contain the spill. The coordinated effort prevented potential hazards such as fire outbreaks and environmental damage, ensuring the safety of lives and property.

As part of their intervention, the affected area was promptly cordoned off, and traffic flow was meticulously managed to minimize disruptions. LASTMA urged motorists to follow directives and use alternative routes as cleanup operations commenced.

Reacting to the swift response, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, commended the emergency teams for their professionalism.

“This incident underscores the importance of strict adherence to traffic regulations and safety protocols by all tanker operators,” Hon. Giwa stated. “The Lagos State Government is committed to enforcing compliance with traffic laws to prevent such avoidable incidents.”

LASTMA assured the public that efforts were ongoing to restore normalcy to the area while urging patience and cooperation from residents and road users.

For emergency traffic or related issues, the agency reminded the public to call its toll-free hotline at 080000527862.
