NCC Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, Appointed to Global Telecommunications Board

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Communications (IIC), a prestigious global organization dedicated to advancing telecommunications and media industries worldwide.

Dr. Maida's appointment reflects his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s telecommunications sector. Under his leadership at the NCC, the industry has achieved significant milestones in connectivity, innovation, and inclusivity, fostering a more competitive environment.

In his new role with the IIC, Dr. Maida will bring his wealth of experience to the international stage, shaping policies that drive the global growth of telecommunications and media industries.

With an impressive career spanning top global organizations such as British Telecom, Cisco Systems, and EE Ltd., Dr. Maida has consistently demonstrated expertise in leveraging technology for development. He was also part of the engineering team at UbiquiSys Ltd, a startup specializing in small-cell technology later acquired by Cisco Systems.

Prior to his NCC tenure, Dr. Maida served as the Executive Director of Technology and Operations at the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement Systems PLC (NIBSS). There, he spearheaded the modernization of Nigeria's digital payments infrastructure, cementing its critical role in the nation’s financial ecosystem.

Dr. Maida’s academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath, an MEng in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College London, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship from Cambridge Judge Business School.

As a member of the IIC board, Dr. Maida is poised to further drive innovation and development in the global telecommunications and media sectors. His appointment is a testament to Nigeria’s growing influence on the international stage in technology and communications.
