Police Arrest Four for Forgery, Job Racketeering, and Impersonation; Rescue 207 Kidnap Victims Nationwide
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested four suspects allegedly involved in forgery, job racketeering, impersonation, and conspiracy. This follows a report from the Special Assistant to the President and an extensive investigation by operatives of the IGP-Special Investigation Unit.
The suspects, identified as Khuzaifa Tafida, Zakari Abdullahi, Abdullahi Baba, and Adeyemo Morufu, are accused of forging classified documents from various government agencies to deceive unsuspecting victims. The group reportedly extorted money under the guise of securing jobs at prestigious institutions such as the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil.
Initial investigations revealed that Tafida and Abdullahi forged documents resembling those from the office of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and the State House, Abuja. These falsified documents were presented to the Inspector-General of Police as recommendations for 13 individuals seeking recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force's 2022 Special Recruitment program.
Upon suspicion, a petition was raised by the Special Assistant to the President, leading to a detailed investigation and the arrest of the two suspects. Further investigations resulted in the apprehension of Baba and Morufu, who also confessed to forging official documents to defraud victims. Recovered items included falsified documents, stamps, and N1.7 million in cash.
The Nigeria Police Force has urged the public to exercise caution and avoid engaging with fraudulent individuals offering jobs or assistance outside official channels.
Police Rescue 207 Kidnap Victims Across States
In a related development, the Nigeria Police Force foiled multiple kidnapping attempts across various states, rescuing 207 victims in the process.
In Katsina State, operatives from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters intercepted armed bandits along the Magama-Jibia road. The bandits had attacked two commercial vehicles in an attempt to abduct their occupants. Following a fierce gunfight, the bandits fled, leaving behind 14 rescued victims, although two sustained gunshot injuries.
Similarly, in Kaduna State, police operatives engaged a group of bandits at Idasu Village, Kidandan LGA, on November 24, 2024. The operatives successfully rescued 89 victims, recovered a locally made AK-47 rifle, and seized five rounds of live ammunition.
Additional kidnapping attempts were thwarted in Lagos, Zamfara, and Delta States, further emphasizing the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring the safety of citizens.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the gallantry and professionalism of the officers involved in these operations. He reaffirmed the force's dedication to combating crime and ensuring the security of lives and property across the country.
The Nigeria Police Force continues to appeal to the public for cooperation and vigilance in reporting suspicious activities.
