BSG, FRSC Partner to Warn Against Drunk Driving in “Don’t Drink & Drive” Campaign

Lagos, Nigeria – December 12, 2024 – The Beer Sectoral Group (BSG) of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has launched its annual “Don’t Drink & Drive” campaign to address the dangers of drunk driving and promote safer road practices.
The two-day initiative, which kicked off with a press conference on December 10 at the Radisson Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, was followed by impactful park rallies on December 11 at key motor parks, including Ojodu, Ojota, and Oshodi. The campaign focused on raising awareness about the consequences of impaired driving and fostering responsible road behavior.
Speaking at the press conference, the Chairman of BSG and CEO of Nigerian Breweries, Hans Essadi, praised the FRSC for its dedication to road safety and reaffirmed the group’s commitment to supporting initiatives that reduce traffic accidents.

"Every year, countless lives are lost to preventable accidents caused by impaired driving. This campaign focuses on three core areas: education, enforcement, and promoting responsible behavior among all road users,” Essadi stated.
As part of the campaign, park rallies engaged commercial drivers and park officials in discussions about the dangers of drunk driving. Drivers were provided with educational materials, offered voluntary breathalyzer tests, and encouraged to embrace safer driving habits.
FRSC Lagos Sector Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat urged drivers to adopt defensive driving techniques and emphasized passengers' rights to intervene when they encounter reckless driving. He also introduced the FRSC’s new app, which helps road users identify speed limits, dangerous road conditions, and potholes.
The campaign brought together key stakeholders, including senior FRSC officials, BSG executives, and road safety advocates. Speakers shared success stories from previous editions and highlighted the importance of partnerships in reducing alcohol-related crashes.
During the park rallies, participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, with many drivers pledging to avoid impaired driving and adopt better road safety practices. The events also featured practical demonstrations and community engagement, reinforcing the message of accountability and safety.
The 2024 “Don’t Drink & Drive” campaign showcases the power of collaboration between public and private organizations in addressing critical societal challenges. Both BSG and FRSC reaffirmed their shared commitment to reducing road accidents and making Nigeria’s roads safer for all.
