Governor Soludo Declares War on Criminals, Unveils New Security Strategy in Anambra
In a decisive move to tackle rising insecurity, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has pledged to make the state the safest in Nigeria. Speaking in a statewide broadcast, the governor outlined a comprehensive strategy to combat criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and the drug epidemic, as well as curb touting.
Governor Soludo emphasized the importance of security, law, and order in achieving his administration's vision of a livable and prosperous state. "Despite the unique challenges posed by lucrative criminality dressed in deceptive propaganda, we are determined to make Anambra the safest state in the country," he stated.
Reflecting on the security challenges inherited by his administration, Soludo revealed that his government had successfully restored security in eight local government areas previously overrun by criminals within his first year in office. However, he noted a resurgence of criminal elements in some of these areas, accompanied by incidents of kidnapping, loss of lives, and vehicle theft.
"We are ready to take these criminals head-on once again," the governor affirmed. "This time, we will triple our efforts, expand the scope of our operations, and launch a comprehensive security ecosystem in January 2025."
The security initiative, code-named Operation UDO GA-ACHI—which translates to Operation Peace Shall Reign—will focus on ensuring lasting peace and security across the state. As part of this initiative, the government will deploy 163 branded security vehicles equipped with advanced technology to patrol every corner of the state. These vehicles will serve as a visible symbol of the administration's commitment to restoring order and safety.
In addition to the enhanced physical presence of security personnel, the operation will leverage technology-based solutions, including call centers with toll-free numbers: 5111 and 08002200008. These hotlines will provide Ndi Anambra with direct access to emergency assistance.
Governor Soludo assured citizens of his administration's unwavering determination to overcome insecurity and deliver a safer, more prosperous Anambra. "Peace must prevail in this land," he declared, signaling the government’s readiness to confront criminality head-on and restore confidence among residents.
