Lagos State Hosts 5th Real Estate Marketplace Conference and Exhibition….....S.A Housing to Governor Sanwo-Olu Advocates Sustainable Development Practices

The 5th edition of the Lagos Real Estate Marketplace Conference and Exhibition commenced on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the Expo Hall, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, investors, and stakeholders to deliberate on sustainable real estate development practices in Lagos State.

In her opening address, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Housing, Barr. Bakarat Odunuga-Bakare, warmly welcomed participants and commended the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support and commitment to the real estate sector. She highlighted the Governor's focus on sustainability and innovation as key drivers of Lagos State's development.

Speaking on the conference's theme, “Reimagining the Lagos Landscape: Ensuring Sustainable Real Estate Development Practices,” Odunuga-Bakare emphasized the urgent need to align real estate development with sustainability principles to ensure safety, innovation, and resilience in the built environment.

“The real estate sector is a vital pillar of Lagos State’s socio-economic growth, providing employment opportunities, enhancing urban infrastructure, and driving economic progress. However, challenges such as building collapses, fraudulent activities, and environmental concerns require urgent and collective action,” she noted.


The Special Adviser highlighted various measures implemented by the Lagos State Government to address these challenges, including enhanced regulatory frameworks and the pivotal role of the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) in ensuring professionalism and transparency within the sector. She also underscored the state’s efforts to promote disaster-resilient urban planning, sustainable building materials, and advanced construction technologies.

The two-day conference is expected to foster meaningful dialogue and partnerships among stakeholders, driving innovative solutions for the real estate sector while advancing Lagos as a smart, inclusive, and sustainable city.

Barr. Odunuga-Bakare expressed optimism about the outcomes of the conference, which she believes will catalyze impactful collaborations and set new benchmarks for excellence in real estate development.

She extended her gratitude to the event’s speakers, panelists, exhibitors, and participants for their contributions and acknowledged the support of sponsors and partners in making the event a success.
