Tragic Accident Claims Pedestrian's Life at Iyana Ishasi U-Turn
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has reported a tragic road accident that claimed the life of an innocent pedestrian earlier today at the Iyana Ishasi U-turn, inward Mile 2. The incident involved a fully loaded Howo tipper without registration details.
According to preliminary findings, the Howo truck, while attempting to maneuver through traffic at excessive speed, suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle veered off its path and struck a pedestrian walking along the roadside, resulting in an instant fatality.
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials and LASTMA operatives responded swiftly to manage the situation, while officers from the Ishasi Police Division provided security support to ensure a seamless rescue operation.
Expressing deep sadness over the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended his heartfelt condolences to the victim's family and prayed for the strength to bear the irreplaceable loss.
Mr. Bakare-Oki emphasized the need for safety consciousness among motorists, stressing the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
He reiterated LASTMA's commitment to promoting road safety, ensuring efficient traffic management, and minimizing accidents across Lagos State.
