Igbogbo Residents Urge Sanwoolu to Prioritize Igbogbo - Laara Road Completion in 2025 Budget 

Residents of Igbogbo and its surrounding communities in Ikorodu have expressed deep frustration over the prolonged delay in the completion of the Igbogbo-Laara Road. They are appealing to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to prioritize the project in the 2025 state budget for urgent completion.

The residents lamented that the road, which connects several communities, has remained in a deplorable state for years, crippling socio-economic activities and causing untold hardship.

Their renewed plea comes as Governor Sanwo-Olu continues commissioning new road projects and infrastructure across Lagos State.

A prominent leader in the Igbogbo community, Alhaji Saheed Adebowale, in an interview with Thenewsnow, called on the governor to expedite action on the project, which began under former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. He expressed concern that despite significant resources already invested, the road risks becoming abandoned unless the contractor is mobilized back to the site.

“It is disheartening that roads initiated long after the Igbogbo-Laara project have been completed, while this critical road remains in disrepair,” Alhaji Adebowale said. He further revealed that many residents affected by the road project, including those whose properties and businesses were disrupted, are yet to receive compensation from the government.

Mrs. Ajisafe, a business owner along the road, lamented the economic impact of the delay. “The constant dust has driven customers away, and businesses are struggling to survive. Schoolchildren also face great difficulty navigating the road, and during the rainy season, it becomes nearly impassable, with vehicles often getting stuck.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Mr. Ibrahim Oluwa, who manages an event center in the area, noted that patronage has dropped significantly. “Even after cutting our prices by over 30%, customers still avoid the venue because of the poor road condition,” he said.

It was gathered that Hi-Tech Construction Company, which is handling the project, was recently allocated ₦1 billion by the Lagos State Government. However, the company reportedly described the amount as insufficient to carry out major work on the road.

The delay has also taken a toll on the Igbogbo Monarch’s palace, which is deteriorating due to limited access for residents and visitors. A palace source disclosed that the situation has forced the traditional ruler to conduct official duties from his residence.

Meanwhile, residents of neighboring Igbe community have experienced temporary relief due to the dry season but remain apprehensive about the return of the rainy season. They have also urged the governor to expedite work on the road and bridge in their area to prevent further hardship.

The residents are hopeful that their collective outcry will prompt Governor Sanwo-Olu to accord priority to the completion of the Igbogbo-Laara Road in the upcoming state budget.
