First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Commissions NYSC Digital Museum and Television Studio
Speaking during the commissioning on Thursday, January 23, 2025, the First Lady described the new facilities as a visionary step towards preserving the NYSC’s legacy, which spans over five decades. She commended the NYSC Scheme for its pivotal role in fostering patriotism, promoting national unity, and bridging gaps between youth potential and community needs since its establishment in 1973.
“This event highlights the significant contributions of the NYSC to our nation’s history,” Senator Tinubu said. “The scheme has served as a platform for national development, integration, and the inculcation of civic values. The Nigerian youth, with their resilience, innovation, and boundless energy, embody an indomitable spirit that the world admires.”
The First Lady praised Nigerian youth for their selflessness and commitment to national service, which she noted is encapsulated in the NYSC anthem: “Under the sun or in the rain, with dedication and selflessness.” She expressed hope that the Digital Museum and TV Studio would inspire future generations, while showcasing the innovation and creativity of Nigerian youths.
“The Digital Museum represents the incredible contributions of NYSC members who have left lasting impacts across various sectors, from science and technology to healthcare and community service,” she noted. “It aligns with global best practices, making the legacy of the NYSC accessible to all.”
The newly commissioned museum features historical landmarks and highlights the NYSC’s role in Nigeria’s development. It also serves as a tool for civic education and the promotion of national values.
In his remarks, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, lauded the First Lady for her dedication to youth development through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). He described the Nigerian youth as hardworking and encouraged them to use the museum and studio to further research and promote national development.
“This facility reflects the determination of the NYSC leadership and showcases the scheme’s alignment with global trends,” the minister said. “It’s a testament to the innovation and contributions of our youth over the years.”
The Director-General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. YD Ahmed, highlighted the significance of the museum and TV studio as a dynamic chronicle of Nigeria’s shared history, values, and aspirations. “The museum is a repository of the rich legacy of the NYSC and Nigeria as a nation,” he added.
A major highlight of the event was a live interview with Senator Oluremi Tinubu in the newly commissioned TV studio.
The facilities underscore the NYSC’s commitment to innovation and its enduring legacy in national development.
