Jonathan Towuru Appointed DIG South-South: Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan Celebrates the Milestone

The New Year has brought remarkable news for the Nigeria Police Force as AIG Jonathan Towuru has been appointed as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) for the South-South Zone. This appointment, announced on January 8, 2024, was met with high praise, particularly from Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, Board Member of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).
Congratulating the newly appointed DIG, Dr. Ogunsan remarked, “The New Year has started on a great note for you, our newest Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Jonathan Towuru. This elevation is in order and is a well-deserved appointment. I am delighted to see you join the management cadre of the Nigeria Police Force to complement the outstanding leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.”
Dr. Ogunsan expressed hope and prayers for DIG Towuru, saying, “I pray you make giant strides in your new role. May the South-South geopolitical zone experience peace, calm, security, stability, and order under your leadership. I wish you good health, wellness, and happiness for you and your family.”
The Police Service Commission (PSC), in a press statement, confirmed the appointment of DIG Jonathan Towuru, who previously served as AIG Zone 6 Calabar. He replaces DIG Daniel Sokari Pedro, DIG ICT, as the representative of the South-South Zone in the Police management team.
Born on December 6, 1965, in Ouwodo Kpokpo Olomu town, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, DIG Towuru has had a distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force. His previous appointments include:
- Assistant Commissioner of Police, State CID Enugu (2011)
- Deputy Force Secretary II, Force Headquarters, Abuja (2012)
- Deputy Commandant, Police College, Maiduguri, Borno State (2014)
- Deputy Force Secretary (2019)
- Commissioner of Police, Western Port, Apapa, Lagos (2022)
- AIG Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, Cross River State
DIG Towuru’s wealth of experience and commendable service history are expected to bring transformative leadership to the South-South Zone. His appointment marks another milestone in the ongoing efforts to strengthen the management team of the Nigeria Police Force, ensuring effective policing across the nation.
