Anambra State Government Warns Against Misrepresentation of Homeland Security Law 2025

The Anambra State Government has issued a stern warning against the spread of false information regarding the newly enacted Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025. The government expressed concern over deliberate misinterpretations of the law, particularly by certain town criers who are distorting its provisions and misleading the public.

Reports indicate that some town criers have falsely claimed that individuals wearing dreadlocks or sagging their trousers would be arrested under the new law. Additionally, another erroneous claim suggested that women not wearing underwear would face arrest. The government has categorically debunked these assertions, labeling them as baseless and misleading.

According to the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, such misinformation has the potential to incite confusion and unrest within the state. He emphasized that the Homeland Security Law does not include any dress code regulations and warned against deliberate misrepresentation of its provisions.

The government views these false narratives as attempts to sabotage the effective implementation of the new security framework, which includes the Agunechemba and Operation Udo Ga-Achi initiatives. These security structures are designed to combat criminal activities and target individuals engaging in harmful spiritual practices, such as native doctors who provide criminals with charms like Oke-ite and Odeshi, believed to offer invulnerability in violent crimes.

In response, the government has mandated that town criers must now seek approval from their communities’ Presidents-General before disseminating any public messages. Furthermore, Presidents-General will be held accountable for any misrepresentation of the law. To prevent further misinformation, officials are urged to verify any doubtful information directly with the government, particularly the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor (SPAD) on Community Security.

Commissioner Mefor stressed that the government will treat this matter with utmost seriousness, ensuring that the public is accurately informed about the objectives and enforcement of the Homeland Security Law 2025.

The newly launched security initiatives under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration have received widespread commendation for their effectiveness. However, the government warns that deliberate misinformation threatens to undermine these efforts, urging residents to disregard fake news and rely on verified sources for accurate information.
