Lagos Police Begin Enforcement of Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced the enforcement of the mandatory Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. The enforcement takes effect from February 1, 2025, according to a statement by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).

Vehicle Owners Must Comply

All vehicle owners in Lagos State are now required to possess a minimum valid Third-Party Insurance. Those without any form of motor vehicle insurance are advised to obtain coverage immediately to avoid penalties.

The Nigeria Police Force has cautioned motorists against non-compliance, warning that failure to adhere to the regulation will attract strict enforcement actions, including fines, penalties, or both. The initiative aims to ensure that all vehicle owners comply with insurance laws, protecting themselves and other road users.

Police to Ensure Professional Conduct

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, has instructed officers to be professional, courteous, but firm while carrying out the enforcement. He also warned that any form of incivility towards the public will not be tolerated.

The police have urged the public to cooperate with officers, emphasizing that this enforcement benefits everyone by enhancing road safety and ensuring compliance with insurance regulations.
