NNPP Holds 54th National Convention, Reaffirms Leadership and Expels Kwankwaso-Led Faction

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has concluded its 54th National Convention, held on February 4, 2025, at Rock View Hotel, Apapa, Lagos. The convention adopted key resolutions concerning the party’s leadership, internal affairs, and political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a major decision, the convention ratified the nationwide congresses conducted across all wards, local government areas, states, and the six geo-political zones. It also reaffirmed the leadership of Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major as the National Chairman, endorsing his National Working Committee (NWC) to continue overseeing the party’s administration.

Reaffirmation of Party Leadership and Constitution

The delegates upheld the NNPP Constitution (2022, as amended) and passed a vote of confidence in the party’s Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, for his leadership and contributions to the party’s growth.

Expulsion of Kwankwaso-Led Faction

The convention reaffirmed the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Engr. Buba Galadima, and Dr. Ahmed Ajuji, declaring that they are no longer recognized members of the party. It further clarified that Senator Kwankwaso was never an original member of NNPP but merely a leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, whose Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the party has now been officially terminated.

Call for INEC to Implement Court Order

The convention urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to comply with the ruling of the Abia State High Court (Suit No. HUZ/11/2024), which directed the electoral body to recognize Dr. Agbo Major Gilbert’s NWC and remove Dr. Ahmed Ajuji’s faction from its records. The convention criticized INEC’s delay, calling on its Chairman, Prof. Yakubu Mohammed, to respect the court’s judgment and uphold the rule of law.

Automatic Tickets for Lawmakers in 2027

In a bid to consolidate party strength, the NNPP resolved that all incumbent members of the House of Assembly and House of Representatives elected under its platform would receive automatic tickets for the 2027 elections. However, this privilege will only be extended to those who demonstrate commitment to the party’s growth.

Call for a United Political Front

The convention concluded by inviting all Nigerians who share the vision of a new and progressive nation to join NNPP, emphasizing the party’s commitment to good governance, democracy, and adherence to the rule of law.
