Operation Udo Ga-Achi Boosts Security in Anambra, Cracks Down on Criminal Activities

Awka, Anambra State – The Operation Udo Ga-Achi security initiative, launched in January 2025 by Governor Charles Soludo, is making significant strides in restoring peace and security across Anambra State. The initiative has intensified the fight against crime, leading to numerous arrests, the demolition of criminal hideouts, and improved collaboration between security agencies and local communities.

A New Era in Security Enforcement

Operation Udo Ga-Achi, which translates to "Peace Shall Reign", was established under the Anambra State Homeland Security Law, signed by Governor Soludo. The initiative introduced 200 security vehicles and advanced surveillance gadgets, alongside the launch of Agunechemba, a state-backed security outfit designed to reinforce the efforts of existing law enforcement agencies.

According to Christian Aburime, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the Homeland Security framework outlines clear roles and responsibilities for security supervisory committees at various levels. These committees are tasked with ensuring adherence to legal and ethical standards while implementing stringent measures against kidnapping, banditry, and illicit drug trade.

Additionally, the law places strict accountability on landlords, property owners, and hospitality businesses, requiring them to verify tenant and guest identities to prevent the use of their premises for criminal activities. Violations carry stiff penalties, serving as a deterrent against crime.

Major Breakthroughs and Crackdowns

The intensified security measures have already yielded significant results:

• Kidnappers and criminals arrested across various locations, including Ozubulu, Isiagu, Oba, and Nnewi.
• Demolition of identified criminal hideouts, disrupting criminal operations.
• Arrest of suspects linked to the murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, a lawmaker representing Onitsha North State Constituency I.
• Liberation of eight Local Government Areas—Aguata, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Orumba North, Orumba South, and Ogbaru—which were previously under siege by criminal elements.

Community Involvement and Traditional Institutions

Governor Soludo’s administration recognizes the vital role of traditional rulers, community leaders, and civil society groups in combating crime. He has called for greater cooperation from these institutions to ensure the sustainability and success of Operation Udo Ga-Achi.
