Announces Community Development Initiatives

LAGOS, NIGERIA – The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has been awarded the Sun Newspaper Public Service Award in recognition of his outstanding leadership and contributions to national development.

The prestigious award ceremony, held in Lagos on Saturday, March 1, 2025, attracted high-profile dignitaries, including Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Management, Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, APC National Chairman and former Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, as well as captains of industry, traditional rulers, and top Customs officials, including Zonal Coordinator, Zone 'A', ACG Charles Orbih, and Area Controllers from Zone A.

Commitment to Enhanced Service Delivery

While receiving the award, CGC Adeniyi expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a motivation to further strengthen the NCS’s core mandates, including trade facilitation, revenue generation, and national security.


“This kind of recognition is very encouraging and inspiring,” he said. “Through our core mandates, we contribute to development, revenue generation, trade facilitation, and security. This award is a call for us to do more, and we are ready for that in 2025.”

Customs to Launch Community Development Initiatives

In a significant announcement, the Customs Chief revealed that the NCS would roll out a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in the coming weeks to support communities where Customs officers operate.

“By the grace of God, we will be launching CSR initiatives in about two weeks to positively impact our communities,” Adeniyi stated. “These projects will align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the eight priority areas of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.”

The initiatives will focus on education, healthcare, and clean water supply, ensuring that communities directly benefit from the agency’s outreach efforts.


A Dedication to Officers and Nation-Building

CGC Adeniyi dedicated the award to all officers and personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service, commending their dedication and hard work in advancing national development.
