Deaf Pedestrian Killed in Tragic Road Accident on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way

Lagos, Nigeria – A fatal road accident claimed the life of a deaf pedestrian at a bus stop along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, inward Maryland, near Temac Filling Station.

The tragic incident occurred when a Suzuki mini commercial bus (Korope), reportedly speeding recklessly, lost control and rammed into a stationary vehicle before striking the unsuspecting pedestrian. The two vehicles involved had registration numbers EPE 279 YJ and BDG 558 YG.

Swift Emergency Response

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) quickly arrived at the scene, securing the area and calling in law enforcement officers from the Area F Police Division, who took custody of both vehicles for further investigation.

Additionally, personnel from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) responded to an emergency distress call from LASTMA and evacuated the deceased’s remains to the General Hospital, Ikeja.

Government Reaction and Safety Warning

Reacting to the tragedy, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and reiterated the need for strict adherence to traffic regulations by commercial transport operators.

Hon. Giwa emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly ensuring the efficiency of braking systems, to prevent such avoidable disasters. He also highlighted the role of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) speed monitoring sites at Alapere, Ogudu Road, and Nitel, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in curbing excessive speeding.

"Road safety is a shared responsibility. Indiscriminate speeding and violation of traffic laws endanger lives. I urge all motorists to obey speed limits and traffic regulations to prevent unnecessary loss of life," he stated.

Hon. Giwa also extended prayers for the grieving family, urging them to find strength in this difficult time.
