DHQ via Op AWATSE Organises Medical Rhapsody in Ikorodu Community
Lagos, March 18, 2025 – The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), through Operation AWATSE, has provided free medical services to residents of the Majidun community in Ikorodu West Local Government Area, Lagos State.
The medical outreach, held under the leadership of Commodore Paul Ponfa Nimmyel, the Maritime Component Commander (MCC) South-West for Operation AWATSE, featured free blood sugar tests, medical consultations, and medication distribution.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of Defence Civil-Military Relations (CDCMR), Rear Admiral OA Bankole, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the directive of the Chief of Defence Staff, General CG Musa, to conduct medical outreach programs across Nigeria’s operational theaters.
*"This exercise is designed to support the less privileged, especially pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children, while strengthening the relationship between the military and the local community,"* Rear Admiral Bankole stated.
He encouraged residents to take advantage of the initiative and cooperate with security forces by providing credible intelligence on criminal activities to enhance security operations.
The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West, Honourable Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, commended the Nigerian Navy and Operation AWATSE for their commitment to community welfare. He assured the military of the Majidun community’s continued support in maintaining security and protecting lives and property.
The medical rhapsody is part of ongoing efforts by the Defence Headquarters and Operation AWATSE to improve healthcare access while fostering stronger civil-military relations in communities across Nigeria.
