Apapa Customs Rakes in ₦694.1bn in Q1 2025, Earns Reps’ Commendation

— Comptroller Olomu Targets Higher Revenue with B’Odogwu Platform

The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded an impressive ₦694.17 billion revenue collection in the first quarter of 2025—marking a significant 41.8% increase compared to the ₦489 billion generated during the same period in 2024.

Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, fsi, disclosed this during a visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Customs, led by Hon. Leke Abejide. He attributed the improved performance to the visionary leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.

“Our success is a direct result of the CGC’s guidance and strategic supervision. With this momentum, we are optimistic about surpassing the ₦2.357 trillion total revenue collected in 2024,” Olomu said.

He noted that on Friday, March 14, 2025, the Command achieved a historic feat by generating ₦18.9 billion in a single day—the highest daily revenue collection in the 135-year history of the service. This surpasses the previous record of ₦18.2 billion set in October 2024.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the Apapa Command, Olomu emphasized its role as a major trade hub not only for Nigeria but also for the West and Central African sub-region. He praised the deployment of advanced technologies and innovations, particularly the B’Odogwu platform, which is streamlining operations and gaining wide acceptance among stakeholders.

“The B’Odogwu platform is revolutionizing Customs processes, contributing immensely to faster cargo clearance and enhancing trade facilitation,” he said.

The Area Controller also revealed that under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Guided Trade Initiative (GTI), the Command has successfully processed exports from Nigerian companies, many of which have now been upgraded to Authorised Economic Operators (AEO) status.

He further announced the issuance of the first Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) under the B’Odogwu system—a major milestone in NCS’s journey towards a modern, technology-driven Customs management system.

In response, Hon. Abejide applauded Comptroller Olomu and his team for their exceptional performance and innovative leadership. He pledged the continued support of the National Assembly for Customs modernization efforts, improved trade facilitation, and global best practices in customs operations.
