CGC Adeniyi Named 'Public Service Person of the Year 2024' for Transformative Leadership
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, has been honoured with the prestigious "Public Service Person of the Year 2024" award at the 17th edition of the Leadership Conference and Awards, held in Abuja.
The recognition, bestowed by the Leadership Group, celebrates Adeniyi's outstanding performance and transformative leadership since assuming office as the head of the Customs Service.
According to the organisers, the award followed a rigorous selection process involving over ten top-performing public officials. Adeniyi emerged as the most deserving candidate for his role in driving transparency, operational efficiency, and improved revenue generation within the NCS—efforts that have significantly contributed to Nigeria’s economic stability.
Accompanied by his wife, Kikelomo Adeniyi, and senior officers of the NCS, the Comptroller-General expressed gratitude for the honour. He dedicated the award to officers and personnel of the Customs Service, reaffirming his commitment to reforms aimed at enhancing trade facilitation, boosting national revenue, and curbing smuggling.
“This award is not just about me; it reflects our collective commitment to transparency, efficiency, and national development,” Adeniyi said while receiving the award.
He also reiterated his focus on modernization, integrity-driven leadership, and improved border security as critical components of his administration’s agenda.
The Comptroller-General was honoured alongside other distinguished personalities, including Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; and several state governors such as Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), and Abba Yusuf (Kano). Lawmakers and private sector leaders were also among the recipients.
The annual Leadership Awards celebrate individuals and institutions that have demonstrated excellence and impact in governance, public service, and enterprise.
