First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Calls for Renewed Commitment to End Malaria in Nigeria

As Nigeria joins the global community to mark World Malaria Day 2025, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has described malaria as a “national emergency” that demands urgent and sustained action.

In a message released on Thursday, April 25, 2025, the First Lady highlighted the grave impact of malaria on the country, noting that Nigeria carries the highest burden of the disease globally. She urged all Nigerians to view the fight against malaria as a collective responsibility.

“The theme for this year—‘Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite’—is a call to action and a message of hope,” she said. “It challenges us to renew our investment in life-saving interventions, raise awareness, and reignite the collective commitment needed to end malaria once and for all.”

Senator Tinubu emphasized the importance of preventive measures, particularly the need to keep environments clean and free of stagnant water, which serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes—the primary vectors of malaria.

She called on government agencies, private sector stakeholders, NGOs, healthcare workers, and community leaders to intensify efforts and work in unity toward malaria eradication.

“Malaria ends with us—with our voices, our choices, and our actions,” the First Lady concluded, encouraging all Nigerians to play their part in tackling the disease and protecting future generations.
