As the momentum builds ahead of the forthcoming Lagos State Local Government elections, several aspirants have begun to make their intentions known. Among them is Hon. Biodun Coker, a respected philanthropist, youth advocate, and a loyal member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who formally declared his ambition to contest for the chairmanship of Lagos Island Local Government.

The declaration event, which took place on Thursday at the popular Oluwole Interlock Park in Lagos Island, witnessed an outpouring of support from community members, political stakeholders, youths, and beneficiaries of Coker’s various humanitarian initiatives.

Empowerment and Proven Impact

In his address, Hon. Coker detailed numerous empowerment programs already carried out under his initiative. These include:

• ICT Empowerment Programs: Over 700 students have benefited from tech-based training designed to enhance digital literacy.

• Educational Support: More than 1,000 students received free JAMB forms, easing their path to higher education.

• Healthcare Intervention: Hundreds of residents now enjoy access to healthcare through a dedicated HMO scheme.

• Infrastructure Development: Establishment and donation of ICT centers across Lagos Island to promote digital inclusion.

Coker emphasized that while these efforts reflect his commitment to human capital development, they are only the beginning. “Our people deserve more, and with your support, we will do more,” he promised.

The “Irorun de” Manifesto

His manifesto is built on six key pillars aimed at fostering inclusive growth, prosperity, and sustainable development within the local government. These pillars include:

1. Revenue and Market Development/Food Security: Introducing innovative strategies to boost local revenue, enhance market infrastructure, and ensure food availability.

2. Access to Quality Education and Digital Literacy: Provision of modern ICT centers in all public primary schools with a minimum of 20 computers each, alongside scholarship schemes under the Irorun Scholarship Program.

3. Community Development, Social Welfare & Security: Improved access to basic amenities, enhanced welfare for the elderly and vulnerable, and support for persons with disabilities.

4. Public Health and Sanitation: Strengthening primary healthcare services, promoting hygiene, and ensuring a cleaner environment.

5. Culture and Tourism: Revitalization of cultural heritage, local festivals, and tourism to boost economic activities.

6. Celebration of Isese Day: Hon. Coker pledged to institutionalize Isese Day as a full community celebration in Lagos Island, building on the Lagos State Government’s public holiday declaration to honor traditional worshippers.
