Lagos Government Advances Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan as Hon. Olowa, Hon. Razaq Assure Residents of Better days Ahead
LEKKI, LAGOS – April 12, 2025
The Lagos State Government's vision of transforming Ibeju-Lekki into a world-class model city took a significant step forward as stakeholders convened for a final meeting on the Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan at the Lekki LCDA Secretariat.
The meeting, spearheaded by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, brought together key government officials, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders to discuss the development blueprint aimed at repositioning Ibeju-Lekki as a 21st-century urban hub.
In his address, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, lauded Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s commitment to the rapid infrastructural development of the area. He described the initiative as a product of strategic planning and relentless effort, emphasizing its alignment with the aspirations of the residents.
Hon. Olowa also acknowledged community concerns regarding the plan and requested a one-month extension for both Ibeju-Lekki and Lekki LCDA to submit official feedback to the Ministry. He assured the public that the government would safeguard their interests and called for their continued support.
Similarly, the Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Hon. Razaq Bamidele Kasali, hailed the city plan as a transformative project that places Ibeju-Lekki on the global map. He encouraged residents to contribute positively and constructively to the process and expressed gratitude to the Governor for his unwavering support.
Commissioner Olumide reiterated the government’s dedication to inclusive urban planning, stating that extensive inspections had been carried out to assess emerging challenges and develop tailored solutions. He outlined the objectives of the model city plan, which include:

A presentation on the model city plan was delivered by Town Planner Moses Ogunleye, followed by an engaging question-and-answer session where residents shared their thoughts and received clarifications.
Dignitaries present at the event included HRM Oba Ebenezer Oyiri, the Onise of Ise; HRM Oba Ismail Adeleke Akibu, the Adegbin of Lepia; senior officials from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development; and other esteemed guests.
