NDLEA Lagos Commander Pays Courtesy Visit to Oba of Ikorodu, Seeks Stronger Collaboration in War Against Drug Abuse

IKORODU, LAGOS — In a strategic move to strengthen community-based efforts in the ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), the Lagos State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Commander Abubakar Liman Wali, paid a courtesy and advocacy visit to His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu.

The visit, which took place at the Oba’s palace, was aimed at reinforcing the existing relationship between the NDLEA and traditional institutions in the state, especially as the agency intensifies its grassroots engagement in combating drug abuse.

During the meeting, Commander Wali commended the monarch for his unwavering support to the agency over the years, acknowledging the significant role the traditional ruler has played in fostering peace and community cooperation in the fight against illicit drugs.

“Your Majesty, we deeply appreciate the continuous support and hospitality the NDLEA has enjoyed from your palace even before I assumed office in Lagos. We count on your influence and goodwill to strengthen our advocacy efforts in Ikorodu and beyond,” Commander Wali said.

He further appealed for deeper collaboration with the palace in intensifying public sensitization on the dangers of drug abuse, emphasizing the importance of community-based awareness initiatives as part of the WADA campaign.

“We are requesting your prayers and continued partnership as the job we do is not without its hazards. Spiritual and moral support is essential for us to succeed,” he added.

In his response, Oba Shotobi pledged sustained support for the agency, assuring the NDLEA of the palace’s open-door policy for any initiative aimed at protecting the youth and securing the community. He also promised to mobilize stakeholders across Ikorodu to support WADA programs.

“I assure you that my palace will remain a strong ally of the NDLEA. We are committed to engaging all stakeholders in Ikorodu to create more awareness on the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking,” the monarch stated.

He also expressed his readiness to collaborate with the agency on the forthcoming International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, scheduled for June, pledging the full support of the traditional council.

The visit concluded with prayers from the Oba for the safety and success of the NDLEA officers and the continued effectiveness of their operations across the state.
