Driver, Passenger Unconscious as Speeding Ford Jeep Rams Into Commercial Bus in Lekki
Lekki, Lagos
A high-speed collision between a white Ford Jeep and a commercial mini-bus along the Ikota-Ajah axis of Lekki, Lagos, left two people critically injured earlier today.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the incident occurred near Ikota School, inward Ajah, when the Ford Jeep (registration number: KWL 574 CY) allegedly lost control while speeding and rammed into a fully loaded mini-bus with plate number FST 207 YK.
The impact of the crash left the commercial bus badly mangled. The driver of the bus reportedly slipped into a coma after suffering a severe arm fracture, while a passenger sustained a serious nasal injury and lost consciousness on the spot.
LASTMA officials arrived promptly at the scene, facilitating the swift evacuation of the injured victims to a nearby hospital. Officers from the Ajiwe Divisional Police Headquarters also assisted in securing the area and restoring traffic flow.
Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the reckless driving behavior and warned motorists against overspeeding.
"Excessive speed remains one of the leading causes of fatal road accidents. We urge all road users to drive responsibly and always prioritize safety," Bakare-Oki stated.
He further extended his wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured victims and reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to ensuring safer roads through effective traffic management and public safety campaigns.
