Anambra Govt Approves More Contracts for Erosion Control, Road Infrastructure, and Healthcare Projects

AWKA, June 19, 2025 — The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has approved a fresh round of capital projects aimed at tackling erosion, improving road infrastructure, and enhancing service delivery in key sectors.

The approvals were made during ANSEC’s 11th meeting held at the newly commissioned Government House, now known as the Light House, in Awka.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said the Council gave the green light for the construction of several strategic roads and infrastructure projects across the state.

Among the approved projects are:

Construction of access roads within Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe;

Development of the Umunze-Umuchu Bypass for erosion and flood control;

Construction of a 2.28 km road linking St. Augustine Community Primary School, Rest Assured Hotel, Community High School, Umunze, and the Umuchu Bypass.

In a move to boost recreation and community development, ANSEC also approved the construction of a Country Club at the Ekwulobia Stadium Complex, as well as the rehabilitation of Nya Ranch Road, located near the old Government House in Awka.

Other notable approvals include:

Additional works on the Specialist Hospital in Fegge, Onitsha South;

Installation of road safety infrastructure—including signs, rumble strips, flashing caution lights, and thermoplastic speed bumps—across strategic locations by the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA);

Reconstruction of dilapidated building blocks at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.

“These projects are part of Governor Soludo’s broader vision to transform Anambra into a livable, prosperous, and modern homeland—comparable to Dubai or Silicon Valley—where economic, technological, and social life flourishes,” Dr. Mefor stated.

Governor Soludo’s administration has continued to receive national acclaim for its achievements, especially in education, healthcare, transportation, agriculture, security, and human capital development. Notably, the governor was recently recognised as the best-performing governor in primary healthcare delivery in the Southeast and across Nigeria.

The Commissioner reiterated that the ongoing infrastructure drive reflects the administration’s resolve to deliver good governance and sustainable development across all sectors and communities in the state.
