Eid-el-Kabir: LASG Assures Seamless Traffic Flow, Warns Against Violations
As Muslims in Lagos and across the world prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, the Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has extended warm greetings to the Muslim faithful and reiterated its commitment to ensuring smooth traffic flow throughout the festive period.
In a press statement released by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, assured residents that strategic measures have been put in place to prevent gridlock and ensure free vehicular movement, especially around Eid prayer grounds and other high-traffic areas.
According to Mr. Bakare-Oki, LASTMA has activated a comprehensive traffic management plan, which includes the deployment of officers to major roads, busy intersections, and known congestion hotspots across the state.
“Our officers have been strategically positioned at major flashpoints to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow,” he said. “They are equipped with modern traffic control tools, including towing vehicles and rapid-response units to swiftly clear any obstruction or resolve unexpected disruptions.”
The LASTMA boss also issued a strong warning to road users, especially commercial drivers, against traffic violations such as illegal parking, unauthorized pick-up and drop-off of passengers, and driving against traffic (one-way). He emphasized that violators would face immediate sanctions, including vehicle impoundment and prosecution before the Lagos State Mobile Court.
To ensure uninterrupted operations regardless of weather conditions, Bakare-Oki revealed that officers have been fully kitted with necessary gear such as raincoats and safety boots.
He urged all motorists to demonstrate patience, obey traffic rules, and maintain decorum on the roads during the celebrations. “Let us all exercise restraint, respect speed limits, and show courtesy to fellow road users,” he said. “We appeal to residents to cooperate with traffic officers so we can all enjoy a safe and peaceful Eid celebration.”
LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order on the roads and providing top-notch traffic management services during and after the Sallah festivities.
