NDLEA, MTN Foundation, First Lady of Lagos Lead Awareness Walk to UNILAG Against Drug Abuse

Lagos, Nigeria – June 2025

As part of activities to commemorate the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Lagos State Command, in collaboration with the MTN Foundation and the Office of the First Lady of Lagos State, organized a sensitization walk to the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka.

The awareness campaign, themed "The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention" with the slogan “Break the Cycle: Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery for All,” was aimed at promoting education and advocacy around drug prevention, especially among youths and students.

Leading the 20-kilometre walk from Gbagada to UNILAG was the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, alongside the Lagos State Commander of NDLEA, Commander of Narcotics Abubakar Liman Wali.

The exercise drew participation from members of the university community, students, and stakeholders in the health and anti-drug sectors. Upon arrival at the UNILAG campus, a series of lectures and interactive sessions were held, focusing on the dangers of drug abuse, its implications on mental health, academic performance, and the broader society.

Speakers at the event urged the students to steer clear of drugs, seek help where necessary, and become advocates of prevention in their respective environments.

The Assistant State Commander, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Lagos Command, ACN Mallum Musa, reiterated the agency’s commitment to sustained awareness and engagement, especially among youths who are most vulnerable to substance abuse.

The event highlights the ongoing collaboration between government agencies, private sector organizations, and civil society in promoting a drug-free society.
