Amotekun Records Major Breakthrough: Arrests Seven, Recovers Stolen Items Worth Over N300m in Ondo

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against crime, arresting seven suspects and recovering stolen goods valued at over N300 million.

The suspects were paraded on Thursday at the corps’ headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, by the Commander of Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, who described the operation as part of a broader effort to ensure safety and security across the state.

“More than celebrating the arrest of criminals, we are celebrating the recovery of life and property,” Adeleye said. “Our operations in the past week have led to a reduction in cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary, and cult-related activities.”

Among the suspects are members of a theft syndicate allegedly involved in the transportation of stolen electronics. Adeleye revealed that the goods, mainly phones and gadgets stolen from Lagos, were smuggled into Ondo State through the Ojota Motor Park.

“One of the suspects boarded the same bus transporting the goods and during a stopover for fuel, he repackaged the stolen items into an empty carton. This suspicious act triggered an investigation which led to the recovery of the stolen electronics,” he explained.

The items, according to Adeleye, belong to a licensed electronics dealer in Ondo State and will be returned after court documentation is completed.

Amotekun also paraded suspects involved in a recent kidnapping case. Two victims abducted along Itagbolu Road were rescued after a 96-hour search operation in the forest. The kidnappers had initially demanded a N50 million ransom, but the victims were rescued without any payment.

“We advise residents not to pay ransom. Most kidnap cases reported in the last two months have been resolved without payments,” Adeleye stated.

Other paraded suspects included a notorious gang leader who had been on the run for six months, a repeat offender who jumped bail and fled to Kano before being rearrested, and an individual involved in violent clashes with herders.

Commander Adeleye reiterated the corps’ commitment to ridding Ondo State of criminal elements, urging residents to continue supporting the efforts of Amotekun and other security agencies.
