Anambra Residents Urged to Register as INEC Opens Continuous Voter Registration Ahead of 2025 Gubernatorial Election
Awka, Anambra State – As preparations intensify for the forthcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 8, 2025, residents and indigenes have been strongly encouraged to seize the opportunity to register to vote. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) across the state, running from July 8 to July 17, 2025.
Speaking on the importance of the exercise, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Mr. Christian Aburime, urged all eligible citizens to participate in the registration process to ensure they can exercise their civic duty during the polls.
“Democracy is a game of numbers,” Aburime noted. “The more people register and vote in free and fair elections, the greater the chance to elect credible leaders who truly reflect the will of the people. But it all begins with registration.”
Describing the CVR as a “golden opportunity,” Aburime called on Ndi Anambra, especially first-time voters, new residents, and those needing to update their voter information, to take advantage of the window provided by INEC. He emphasized that the upcoming election is a critical moment for the state—a chance to choose leadership that will continue the journey toward transforming Anambra into a prosperous, smart megacity.
He explained that the CVR exercise accommodates all eligible voter categories:

New registrants who are 18 years and above

Residents relocating from one part of the state to another or from another state

Those whose Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) are missing or damaged
-
Voters who have registered previously but have not yet collected their PVCs
Registration centres have been established in all 326 wards across Anambra, operating daily from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, including weekends. Aburime commended INEC’s decentralised approach, saying it brings the registration process closer to the people and eliminates barriers to participation.
Also reinforcing the importance of the exercise, Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra State, urged citizens not to take the opportunity for granted.
“It is not right to sit at home on election day and later complain about bad governance,” she said. “Registration is the first step in ensuring your voice counts in the democratic process.”
With just a few days left before the CVR deadline, stakeholders continue to call on Ndi Anambra to act swiftly, register, and prepare to make their voices heard in shaping the future of the state.
