Federal University Gashua Honours First Lady; Remi Tinubu Dedicates Award To Girl-child; Endows Best Female Student Award with N50m
The Federal University, Gashua in Yobe State, has conferred a doctorate degree, Doctor of Letters (D.Litt, Honoris Causa) on the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The First Lady was honoured on Saturday, 12 July 2025, during the graduation ceremony of the university, which took place in Gashua.
Senator Tinubu expressed appreciation to the University for the honour noting that rather than making her rest on her oars, the honour will spur her to do more in promoting healthy well-being for the citizenry especially women and the girl-child.
"As you have said, this honour is in recognition of my works over the years, and I feel honoured to be considered for this recognition.
"As the First Lady of Nigeria, I want to assure you that this honour will not deter me. Rather than rest on my oars, it will spur me to do more. The reward for hard work is more work.
"I want to dedicate this honour to every girl-child who dares to dream, and I want to reiterate once more that I will not relent in promoting people-oriented programmes. the First Lady who spoke through her representative, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Strategy, Honourable Wahab Alawiye-King, said.
Senator Tinubu later donated N50 million to endow the chair for the overall best graduating female student of the university.
Also honoured at the event were: the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni; former Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan; former Governor of Yobe State, Ibrahim Gaidam; Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Mohammed and Buka Goni Haji
