First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Mourns Former President Muhammadu Buhari

Abuja, Nigeria – July 14, 2025 — The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, describing his death as a profound loss to the nation.

In a condolence message issued on Monday, the First Lady paid glowing tribute to the late statesman, who served Nigeria with distinction as a military ruler and later as a democratically elected president.

“It is with deep sadness that I received the news of the passing of Former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. Our nation has lost a great leader who dedicated his life to the service of our beloved country,” she said.

Senator Tinubu described the former president as a man of “immense courage and conviction” who governed with integrity and an unwavering commitment to justice, accountability, and national development.

“He was a tireless advocate for good governance, and I recall his deep belief in the potential of every Nigerian. His legacy of discipline, patriotism, and service will remain etched in our national history,” she added.

The First Lady extended her condolences to the former First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari, their children, grandchildren, and the entire Buhari family, urging them to take comfort in the love and support of a grateful nation.

“To his beloved wife, Hajia Aisha Buhari, and the entire family, I extend my heartfelt condolences. May you find solace in the outpouring of love from across the nation and the world. Your grief is shared by all Nigerians,” she said.

She prayed for the peaceful repose of the late President’s soul, saying, “May Almighty Allah grant President Muhammadu Buhari Aljanah Firdaus and comfort his family and all Nigerians during this time of national mourning.”

President Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a two-term democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023. He passed away at the age of 82.
