Igando-Ikotun LCDA Inaugurates 6th Legislative Council, Elects Principal Officers

Lagos, Nigeria – July 2025 | The Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has inaugurated its 6th Legislative Council in a ceremony that underscored renewed dedication to democratic governance, grassroots development, and community service.

During the official swearing-in held in Lagos, Hon. Olorunfemi, representing Ward F (Egan-Idimu), was elected Leader of the House, while Hon. Oluwatosin Opebiyi of Ward C (Isheri-Osun) emerged as Deputy Leader. The event drew a vibrant crowd of traditional rulers, political stakeholders, community leaders, market women, youth groups, and residents.

The colourful ceremony also featured the presence of the Executive Chairman of the LCDA, Snr. Comrade Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya, who congratulated the newly elected councilors and pledged continued cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of the local government.

In his inaugural speech, Hon. Olorunfemi thanked his fellow councilors for the confidence reposed in him, promising to lead the legislative arm with transparency, fairness, and a commitment to the collective good.

“This ceremony is not just about celebrating electoral success; it is a solemn reminder of the sacred trust our people have placed in us,” he said. “Our goal is clear — to deliver impactful policies that improve healthcare, enhance social amenities, and empower our youths across all wards.”

Hon. Olorunfemi paid tribute to the immediate past council leadership for their dedication and peaceful service and extended a hand of partnership to the executive, emphasizing the need for synergy to drive development initiatives.

He also called on his fellow councilors to rise above partisan interests, focus on people-centered legislation, and carry out oversight responsibilities diligently.

“Oversight is not a formality. It is a responsibility — to ensure accountability and efficient use of public resources,” he said. “Let us maintain decorum, discipline, and unity in our conduct as we reflect the dignity of the offices we hold.”

Also present at the event was the Honourable Member representing Alimosho Federal Constituency, Hon. Ganiyu Ayuba Adele, who extended his congratulations to the new council officers. He urged them to remain committed to the development of their wards and encouraged political unity as the nation approaches the 2027 general elections, particularly in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s anticipated second term bid.

“Today marks a new chapter in our journey towards inclusive and participatory governance,” Hon. Adele said. “Your emergence is a clear testament to the people’s trust. You must now translate that trust into action through service, legislation, and development.”

The Executive Chairman, Snr. Comrade Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya, also emphasized unity, urging all councilors to embrace collaboration and focus on delivering lasting impacts in their constituencies.

With the inauguration of the 6th Legislative Council, Igando-Ikotun LCDA is set to consolidate on previous achievements and initiate new people-oriented programs that will drive inclusive development and improve the lives of constituents.
