KWASU Becomes First University to Benefit from GloShare, Mobile Community Plan

Ilorin, Nigeria – Staff and students of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, are set to enjoy improved campus-wide connectivity following the launch of GloShare and Mobile Community telephony plan by digital solutions provider, Globacom.

The unveiling of the two services, held at the university’s main campus, marks a significant step in Globacom’s mission to enhance communication and collaboration in educational institutions across Nigeria.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Adewale Adiatu, Enterprise Southwest Regional Head of Globacom, said the initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to transforming how students connect, share, and collaborate — both academically and socially.

According to him, GloShare will allow students and staff to access the university portal and download educational materials without using their personal data. Meanwhile, the Mobile Community Plan enables seamless intra-campus communication, placing all subscribers within the KWASU community on a unified platform.

“This is the first time any tertiary institution in Nigeria is benefiting from such an integrated digital learning and communication system,” Adiatu noted.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Adeniyi Odejobi, Enterprise National Vertical Head, Glo Enterprise Sales, disclosed that several telecom sites have already been erected on the campus, with more under construction to ensure robust and uninterrupted service delivery.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of KWASU, Prof. Shaykh Luqman Jimoh, described the event as both “historic and futuristic.” He praised the launch for coinciding with a student-focused leadership forum themed "Redefining Leadership in the Age of AI: Students as Innovators, Volunteers, and Changemakers."

“These initiatives—GloShare and the Mobile Community Plan—are homegrown, tailored to our needs, and emblematic of the innovative spirit that defines our university,” he stated, expressing optimism that the services would foster better communication and learning among students.

The President of KWASU’s Student Union Government, Mallam Abdulafeez Babatunde Kewulere, also applauded Globacom for selecting KWASU as the pilot institution for the initiative.

“This is a clear demonstration of Glo’s commitment to empowering Nigerian students with cutting-edge digital solutions,” he said, urging his fellow students to fully utilize the platforms to enhance their academic and social experiences.

“With tools like these, KWASU students are better positioned to thrive in an increasingly digital world,” he added.
