COAS Lays Foundation for Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Nasarawa

Doma, Nasarawa State – The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has laid the foundation stone for the Nigerian Army Special Forces School (NASFS) in Doma, Nasarawa State, describing the initiative as “a legacy of excellence, bravery and sacrifice” that will strengthen the Army’s combat readiness.

The new institution, designed to produce highly skilled troops capable of operating in complex and unconventional battlefields, represents a strategic leap in enhancing the Nigerian Army’s capacity to confront evolving security threats.

The Special Forces School was initially established in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, but has now been relocated to Doma to provide a more conducive environment for advanced and mission-specific training. The Buni Yadi facility will continue to function as the Nigerian Army Acclimatization Center, focusing on preparing personnel for operations in the challenging terrains of the North East.

Speaking during the foundation-laying ceremony, Lt. Gen. Oluyede reaffirmed his commitment to providing world-class training and modern equipment, stressing that the Army’s Special Forces would remain “unconquerable” and on par with their global counterparts.

In addition to the school, the COAS also commissioned two key projects: the new 4 Special Forces Command Headquarters and a modern Officers’ Mess, complete with operational workspaces, conference facilities, and recreational amenities aimed at improving capacity, welfare, and morale of personnel.

Earlier in Lafia, Lt. Gen. Oluyede paid a courtesy call on Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, where he emphasized the Nigerian Army’s national character and called for stronger civilian-military cooperation in securing the country. Governor Sule, in his response, commended the Army’s efforts in stabilizing the state, noting its role in enabling agriculture and mining to flourish despite prevailing security challenges.

The Doma ceremony ended with a symbolic tree-planting exercise, a gift presentation to the COAS by the Andoma of Doma in recognition of his leadership, and a group photograph with dignitaries.
