FG to Build Six Ultra-Modern Bus Terminals Nationwide— ₦142bn Project Targets Safety, Economic Growth
Abuja, August 14, 2025 — The Federal Government has approved the construction of six ultra-modern bus terminals across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones in a landmark move to overhaul the nation’s land transportation system.
Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, announced the approval on Wednesday in Abuja while briefing journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
He described the initiative as one of the legacy projects of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Administration, noting that the terminals will enhance travel safety, curb accidents, and reduce illegal activities on highways.
“This is the first time the Federal Government is investing in modern bus terminals. They were strategically sited for economic viability and security,” Alkali said, adding that the facilities will also serve as instruments of economic, social, and political development.
The ₦142.03 billion project will see the terminals located in:
- Abeokuta (South West)
- Gombe (North East)
- Kano (North West)
- Lokoja (North Central)
- Onitsha (South East)
- Warri (South South)
Alkali explained that once completed and operational, the terminals would provide safe, efficient, and well-coordinated bus transportation services nationwide.
During the meeting, President Tinubu commended cabinet members for their unwavering commitment, resilience, and hard work in driving the administration’s reform agenda.
