Glo Foundation Brings Relief to New Mothers in Akure
Telecommunications giant, Globacom, has put smiles on the faces of dozens of new mothers in Ondo State through its corporate social responsibility arm, Glo Foundation.
At a presentation ceremony held at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, the company paid the childbirth fees of several mothers and distributed essential baby supplies, easing both the financial and emotional burden of motherhood in the current harsh economic climate.
Speaking at the event, Globacom’s Retail Chief (West), Akeem Yussuf, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to impacting lives beyond its business operations.
“We recognize the vital role mothers play in nurturing the future of our nation, and we believe that supporting you is, in fact, supporting generations to come,” he said.
Yussuf explained that the initiative started as a staff-driven project before receiving full sponsorship from the company. He noted that motherhood presents many challenges, which are often worsened by economic hardship, adding that Globacom would continue to support families and communities across Nigeria.
Officials of the State Specialist Hospital commended the gesture and assured that the hospital would maintain its standards of excellent healthcare delivery.
The programme drew heartfelt appreciation from beneficiaries and their families. One of the mothers, Mrs. Ehinnowo Deborah, described the support as “a blessing,” noting that it was especially helpful after undergoing a cesarean section.
Another mother, Mrs. Adenuga Ronke, said receiving baby diapers was a welcome relief. “My baby, Elijah, has been provided with pampers and I am grateful for that,” she said.
Mr. Isiaka Segun, whose wife Rasheedat benefited from the initiative, stressed that the intervention went beyond financial support. “We attended a seminar, received diapers, and had our delivery costs covered. It is very much okay,” he said.
Similarly, Mrs. Abdulrafiu Odunayo expressed her joy, saying, “I was so happy about the payment made to cover my delivery. The diapers have also been so useful for my baby.”
With this initiative, Globacom has once again demonstrated that its measure of success goes beyond profit margins, extending to tangible contributions that uplift families and strengthen communities nationwide.
